Walk the Downs Health Walk
24 September, 2019 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Discover the beauty and tranquillity of the South Downs National Park within easy reach of Seaford. The route passes through Blatchington Golf Course and gently undulates across chalk downland hills along bridleways and quiet paths. Great views can be enjoyed over Blackstone Down and the Rathfinny Estate.
The chalk grassland on the South Downs is a rare habitat that supports a wide range of flora and fauna. It is a wonderful place to see the rare Adonis Blue butterfly and wild flowers such as the Devil’s-bit scabious – a tall plant with rounded purple-blue flowers that look like a pin cushion and Bird’s-foot trefoil – also known as ‘eggs and bacon’ because of the yellow and orange hue of the pea-like flowers.
In the spring and summer the South Downs air is alive with the song of skylarks and buzzards can often be seen cruising on the thermals too.
