Sportswise Wellness Walk
21 September, 2019 @ 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
This is a downland walk mixed with three stops with short talks on route about the health benefits of walking and advice from a doctor, physiotherapist and dietician. The walk starts and finishes at the Sportswise clinic on the University campus in Carlisle Road. It starts with a fairly steep climb up onto the downs. Passing a dew pond, we cross the road at Warren Hill before descending into a valley where we stop for the first talk by Professor Nick Webborn, a specialist in Sport and Exercise Medicine. Heading on we walk onwards in the direction of Birling Gap before the second stop for a talk by specialist physiotherapist Maryke Louw. We turn at this point and start to head back on a slightly different route with views across to Belle Toute lighthouse and we stop again for a talk by dietitian Lesley Houston before heading back up where we cross the road and get views over Eastbourne before circling back round to descend back to the start. All the talks are informal and questions and discussion are welcomed. A great way to exercise, explore the area and learn more about keeping healthy safely through physical activity and good diet.
